NMSU STEM Outreach Center

BOOST Network Member Profile

The NMSU STEM Outreach Center provides students with fun and interactive programming that helps reinforce the lessons they learn in the classroom while sparking their interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

To promote 21st century skills, our program coordinators engage students through technology-based activities. We use high-tech tools such as virtual goggles, robots, and even a portable planetarium to expose students to devices that they otherwise would not have the chance to experience. We also help school districts by offering outreach to parents and guardians and professional development for educators.

In 2019-2020, the STEM Center’s curricula and educational resources supported nearly 8,000 K-12 students in 980 out-of-school-time programs across southern New Mexico. By collaborating directly with school administrators and teachers, we are able to ensure our after school activities go hand-in-hand with what students are studying in the classrooms. We also support school activities that are of unique interest to the students at each site, including band, cooling classes, and ballet folklorico, as well as parent engagement events at our school sites.

As members of the BOOST Network, we enjoy having the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with other OST providers in the region. We appreciate being able to share best practices, and create partnerships to expand our programming and fulfill our mission of preparing the next generation for academic, personal and professional success.

“We always have a blast going to BOOST meetings! We try to gather and share ideas with other OSTs and build our network that can lead to future collaboration opportunities. The BOOST Staff is very committed to creating partnerships and making everyone feel welcome and as comfortable as possible.” - Jessica Muñoz, Program Coordinator
